Heidi's Tea Blog

For the love of tea!

About

collectionI am no expert in tea, but I do enjoy it. I enjoy the comfort of tea, the taste, and yes, even the formality. When I started collecting teapots, tea cups & saucers, I had no idea the difficult times drinking and preparing tea would help get me through.

Black tea is my tea of choice with no sugar or milk. Oolong, pu-erh, and Earl Grey are particular favorites. Earthy and rich. I’ll have an occasional chai and some peppermint, but I’m not a big “fruit-flavored” tea lover, unless it has some orange in it. Black tea with rose buds blended in are lovely too.

I have yet to find a green tea that strikes my fancy. I do have some nice ones, but nothing that makes me want to drink it on a daily basis.

One of my most prized possessions is a silver set tea that belonged to my great grandmother. Unlike many people who would place such fine pieces in their cabinets to sit for years and year…I actually USE mine! I love using it and knowing my ancestors touched it and used it as well. What’s the point of having a tea pot and not using it. At least that’s how I feel about it.

I feel a teapot has not lived up to its full potential unless it is stained with years of use.

The tea set is actually nana’s grandmother, Alvina Ethridge, who helped take care of mom after her mom, Mary, passed away. Aunt Connie was starting to give some of her possessions to people and family and she knew I would actually use it and wanted me to to have it. I was very honored and thrilled. I need to keep it polished, but I DO use it. The only bad part about it is that the handle get VERY hot, so I have to remember to use a tea towel to pour. I think of Aunt Connie every time I use it and the history in the set. Mom remembered seeing Alvina use it.
